This weekend my wife and I enjoyed our prize weekend in Texel. Snelstart, an accounting software company, picked me from their Techdays lottery. We got a weekend on Texel including hotel & breakfast, a diner, a visit to the brewery, Ecomare and a show & tell with lunch at the company itself. I was quite fascinated by how they run the company and develop the product. It was a fun mix of front to market techniques on Azure with methods and practices like agile development, pair coding and a twist of self-organizing teams. I have actually never done pair coding in real life. Yes, more in a teacher-student mode I’ve had help that might look like it. I don’t know how good I’d be at it. It’s hard to imagine someone else having all the fun and me watching out for mistakes or improvements ;P The thought behind it, with an focus on getting quality code (aka functionality) to production as soon as possible, was inspiring. Not everyone will win a great weekend, but a change of scenery is a healthy must that adds to one’s perspective. How do you incorporate that into your life?
